Story Machine
Three-frame storytelling activity
Create an oral story with three picture or written frames. Story Machine lets teachers choose a format and guide storytelling from beginning to middle to ending.

How to use it in your lesson
Three frames give a shared structure without prescribing every sentence. Learners can describe what they see, develop characters and decide how events connect.
- Choose three picture frames or a written story.
- Give partners a moment to plan the sequence.
- Tell the story together, then retell it with a different detail or perspective.
For primary learners
Use first, next and finally to connect short sentences.
For middle-school learners
Add motives, tension and contrasting viewpoints, or retell events from another character’s perspective.
What do I need?
A classroom screen and an authorised Oracy teacher account. Choose your prompts before the lesson and try the activity on the device you will use. Adjust the language, pacing and participation to your learners.
